Overview

Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport is India's busiest international airport and second busiest overall, handling 50+ million passengers. Terminal 2 (T2), opened in 2014, is one of Asia's most spectacular airport terminals — housing an art collection of 7,000 works from across India.

Transport to city center

Mumbai Metro Line 1 from Sahar Road (10 min walk or free shuttle) to Andheri station (10 min, ₹40). Prepaid taxis: ₹600–800 to South Mumbai (45–90 min depending on traffic). Uber/Ola from designated areas. Train from Andheri station to CST (55 min, ₹15) — not recommended with luggage in rush hour.

Wi-Fi

Free WiFi at Mumbai's terminals — you'll receive an OTP by SMS to your mobile to log in, so an active roaming or local number helps; airport WiFi kiosks can issue a code if needed.

Lounges

Air India Maharaja Lounge (T2), multiple Plaza Premium lounges (Priority Pass), Jet Privilege lounge, and various airline lounges. The T2 lounge level has outstanding views of the terminal art installation.

Security & customs

Only ticketed passengers may enter the terminal — have a printed or digital ticket and passport ready at the door. Security separates men and women for pat-downs, and you must remove laptops and present hand baggage with a stamped tag. Standard 100ml liquid rules apply; arrival immigration can be slow, and e-Visa/visa-on-arrival holders use designated counters.

Travel tips

Mumbai traffic is some of Asia's worst — allow 2–3 hours for airport transfers during peak hours. The T2 terminal art collection is worth arriving early to appreciate. Prepaid taxi counter (post-customs) is safer than accepting offers inside the terminal.
