Overview

Jorge Chávez is South America's gateway to Peru and a major regional hub. A new, significantly expanded terminal opened in 2024, transforming what was a cramped airport into a modern facility with far better capacity and facilities. Located in Callao, just 11km from Miraflores.

Transport to city center

Taxi from official counter: PEN 55–70 to Miraflores (20–40 min, no traffic). Uber/Beat apps: PEN 30–45. No direct rail or bus service. The Airport Express Lima bus runs to Miraflores every 20 minutes (PEN 9, 30–45 min) — good value.

Wi-Fi

Free WiFi at Jorge Chávez — connect to the airport network and register; the free session is time-limited but renewable.

Lounges

LoungeHub (Priority Pass) in international departures. LATAM VIP Lounge. The new terminal expansion has improved lounge facilities significantly.

Security & customs

Use only the official authorized taxis or the Airport Express bus from the regulated counters — avoid touts. Standard 100ml liquid rules apply at security. Immigration is generally straightforward for visa-exempt visitors; keep your stamped entry slip safe and don't carry restricted archaeological items.

Travel tips

Lima traffic to Miraflores is manageable at most hours but can be slow at rush times (7–9am, 5–8pm). The currency exchange in arrivals offers fair rates for initial cash. Book onward transport to Cusco well in advance — flights are frequently full on the tourist route.
