Overview

Luang Prabang International Airport is the main gateway to northern Laos and the UNESCO-listed former royal capital. It is a compact regional airport handling flights from Bangkok, Hanoi, Vientiane, Chiang Mai, and other Asian hubs. Despite its modest size, it is one of the busiest airports in Laos.

Transport to city center

The historic center is only about 4 km away; airport taxis and minivans with fixed prices are the usual way into town, and some hotels offer free shuttles.

Wi-Fi

Free WiFi is available in the terminal; connect to the airport network in the departure area.

Lounges

There is a small business lounge airside accessible to premium passengers and eligible card holders.

Security & customs

Visa-on-arrival is available for many travelers — have US dollars cash, a photo, and your onward details ready. Standard 100ml liquid rules apply and immigration queues can build when several international flights arrive together.

Travel tips

Many nationalities can get a Lao visa on arrival, so carry US dollars in cash and a passport photo. The airport is small, so arrive early as check-in and security can be slow during peak flight banks.
