Overview
Taiwan Taoyuan is a large, modern hub airport 40km west of Taipei, handling 55+ million passengers annually and connecting to 140+ destinations. A major transit hub between East Asia and North America/Europe, it offers excellent facilities, multiple lounges, and the highly efficient MRT connection to the city.
Transport to city center
MRT Taoyuan Airport Line to Taipei Main Station (35 min, TWD 160 — takes EasyCard) — fast and reliable. Taxi: TWD 1200–1500, 45–70 min. Bus to multiple Taipei stops (TWD 130, 70–90 min). The MRT is the clear best option for most travellers.

Security & customs
Many nationalities enter visa-free; eligible travelers can register for the e-Gate (automated immigration) service. Standard 100ml liquid rules apply at security. Taiwan strictly bans imports of meat products (African swine fever controls) with heavy fines — do not bring any, and the two terminals are connected by the airport MRT and shuttle.
Travel tips
Get your EasyCard at the airport MRT station immediately — it works for all Taipei MRT, buses, and YouBike. Taiwan customs requires declaration of cash over TWD 100,000 or USD 10,000. The airport pharmacy has good prices on Taiwanese skincare and health products.
