El Alto International Airport serves La Paz and is one of the highest international airports in the world, sitting above 4,000 meters. Transport to city center

Official taxis and minibuses descend from El Alto into the La Paz basin, and the Mi Teleférico cable car network connects nearby. The drive down into central La Paz takes around 30-45 minutes.

A limited selection of lounges serves premium and Priority Pass passengers in the departures area.

Travel tips

The extreme altitude can cause soroche (altitude sickness), so move slowly and stay hydrated on arrival. Carry warm clothing, as El Alto is cold even during the day.
