Overview
Paro International Airport is Bhutan's only international airport and the gateway for visitors to the capital, Thimphu. Set in a deep Himalayan valley, it is famous as one of the world's most challenging airports, where only specially certified pilots may land. It is the hub for Drukair and Bhutan Airlines.

A single terminal in traditional Bhutanese architectural style handles all international flights.
Transport to city center
Thimphu lies about an hour and a half away by road, reached by tour operator vehicle or taxi through the mountains. Most visitors travel with a pre-arranged guide and driver.

Travel tips
Flights operate only in daylight due to the terrain, so schedules are weather-dependent. Most travellers must arrange a guided package and pay the Sustainable Development Fee.
