Overview
Bali is the Island of the Gods — emerald rice terraces, thousand-year-old temples, world-class surf, spiritual ceremonies, and a warmth that makes you never want to leave.
Getting around
Hire a driver for the day (affordable and easiest). Gojek/Grab for short trips. Scooter rental for the experienced.
Local etiquette
Balinese culture is deeply religious — dress modestly and wear a sarong and sash when entering temples (often provided at the entrance). Never touch anyone's head, step over the small daily offerings (canang sari) on the ground, or point your feet at people or shrines. Use your right hand for giving and receiving, and women should not enter temples while menstruating.
Safety
Bali is generally safe. Motorbike accidents are common — rent scooters only if experienced. Petty theft near beaches.
