Overview
Copenhagen — Kobenhavn — is the world capital of hygge and the culinary revolution that gave us New Nordic cuisine (Noma, Geranium, Alchemist). A city of colourful Nyhavn harbour townhouses, the Little Mermaid statue, Tivoli Gardens amusement park, and perhaps the highest density of Michelin-starred restaurants on earth. And everyone cycles — always.
Getting around
Metro and S-Tog (commuter rail) are efficient. Citywide cycling infrastructure is world-class — bikes are the dominant transport. Harbour buses (water buses) are a scenic commute option. Copenhagen is very walkable in the centre.
Local etiquette
Danes are reserved, egalitarian, and value the concept of 'hygge' (cosy contentment). Be punctual, modest, and avoid boasting or loud behaviour. Cyclists rule the bike lanes, so never walk in them, and tipping is not expected since service is included.
Safety
Exceptionally safe. Copenhagen has among the lowest crime rates of any European capital. The city is safe at all hours, well-lit, and has excellent emergency services. Watch for cyclists — they have right of way in the bike lanes.
