Overview
KL is Southeast Asia's most underrated city — the Petronas Twin Towers, incredible food in hawker centres, a modern metro, and a melting pot of Malay, Chinese, and Indian cultures.
Getting around
KL Sentral hub connects LRT, MRT, Monorail, and KTM Komuter. Grab for everything else.
Local etiquette
Malaysia is multicultural and largely Muslim — dress modestly, especially at mosques, where women cover their hair and everyone removes shoes (robes are often provided). Use your right hand for eating, greetings, and passing items, and never touch someone's head or point with your index finger (use your thumb). Ask before photographing people, and be discreet during Ramadan.
Safety
KL is generally safe. Bag snatching from motorcycles occurs. Avoid displaying expensive items.
