Overview
Sana'a is Yemen's ancient highland capital, whose UNESCO-listed old city dazzles with multi-story tower houses of gingerbread-like brick and white gypsum tracery. One of the longest continuously inhabited cities on Earth, it is a breathtaking architectural treasure.
Getting around
Movement is restricted and dangerous; shared taxis and minibuses exist but private trusted transport would be necessary.
Local etiquette
Dress very conservatively, with women covering hair and bodies, and avoid photographing people or sensitive sites. Discretion and respect for the devout, traditional culture are essential.
Safety
Yemen is engulfed in conflict and humanitarian crisis, and all governments strongly advise against travel due to war, terrorism, and kidnapping. There is essentially no consular support.
