Travel Costs in Guyana

Overview

Guyana is a moderately priced destination by South American standards, though Georgetown can be surprisingly costly due to limited tourism infrastructure and an oil-boom economy inflating prices for accommodation and dining. Local street food and minibus transport are very affordable, but mid-range hotels and eco-lodge packages into the interior can significantly push up daily budgets. The interior rainforest regions require organized tours or charters, which are the single biggest expense for most visitors.

Notes

Eat at local cook shops and markets rather than hotel restaurants to keep food costs low, and book interior eco-lodge tours directly rather than through international operators to cut out significant markup fees.
