Overview
Haiti is a surprisingly mixed destination cost-wise — local street food and tap-tap shared transport are very cheap, but security concerns and limited tourism infrastructure mean that mid-range and upscale accommodations, private transport, and guided tours carry a premium. International travelers often spend more than expected due to reliance on private taxis and vetted guesthouses for safety reasons.
Notes
Use tap-tap shared minibuses for short urban trips to dramatically cut transport costs, and eat at local gaguères or street stalls for authentic Haitian food at a fraction of restaurant prices.
