Overview
Honduras is one of the more affordable destinations in Central America, with low costs for food, local transport, and budget accommodation. The Bay Islands, particularly Roatán, are significantly more expensive than the mainland due to their popularity with diving tourists and resort infrastructure. Overall costs are driven up by the need for occasional private transport for safety reasons and the relatively higher prices in tourist-oriented areas.
Notes
Eating at local comedores and markets instead of tourist restaurants can cut meal costs by 60–70%, and taking chicken buses or collectivos on the mainland is extremely cheap compared to tourist shuttles or taxis.
