Overview
Iran is an extremely affordable destination for international travelers, with very low costs for food, local transport, and accommodation in local currency terms. However, due to US and international sanctions, foreign visitors cannot use international credit or debit cards and must bring all cash in euros or other hard currency to exchange on the informal market, which complicates budgeting. The main expenses for travelers are long-distance travel between cities and guided tours, while day-to-day costs remain remarkably low.
Notes
Bring sufficient euro or UAE dirham cash for your entire trip since no international cards work in Iran; exchange money at official exchange offices or reputable hotels to get a fair rate and avoid scams.
