Malaysia is one of Southeast Asia's best-value destinations, offering excellent food, accommodation, and transport at prices well below Western standards. Kuala Lumpur and Penang are the priciest areas, while East Malaysia and rural regions are cheaper. The biggest cost variables are accommodation and alcohol, as Malaysia's Muslim-majority context means beer and spirits carry high taxes.
