Overview
Montenegro is a moderately affordable destination by European standards, though coastal areas like Budva, Kotor, and Porto Montenegro command significantly higher prices during the peak summer season (June–August). Inland and northern regions such as Podgorica and Kolašin are noticeably cheaper. The country uses the Euro despite not being an EU member, which adds convenience but removes any exchange-rate advantage.
Notes
Traveling in the shoulder season (May or September) can cut accommodation costs by 30–50% while still offering good weather; eating at local konoba restaurants away from tourist waterfronts also delivers much better value than seafront dining spots.
