Overview

Namibia is a moderately expensive destination by African standards, largely because of its vast distances requiring either costly car rentals or organized tours to reach its famous landscapes like Sossusvlei and Etosha. Accommodation and safari activities are the primary cost drivers, while food and drink in local establishments remain relatively affordable. Self-drive travelers face significant fuel and vehicle rental expenses, which can substantially raise the daily budget.

Notes

Renting a 4WD and self-driving is often more cost-effective than joining guided tours for groups of two or more, and stocking up on groceries at supermarkets in Windhoek or Swakopmund before heading into remote areas can dramatically cut food costs.
