Overview
Qatar is a relatively expensive destination driven primarily by accommodation costs, which can be steep especially in Doha's city center. Alcohol is only available in licensed hotel bars and restaurants and is heavily taxed, making it a significant expense for drinkers. However, food costs can be very reasonable if you eat at local Filipino, South Asian, or Middle Eastern eateries in the souq and worker districts.
Notes
Use the Doha Metro and public buses for very cheap city travel instead of taxis, and eat at the many affordable Asian and Levantine cafeterias around Souq Waqif and the Industrial Area for meals under $6.
