Travel Costs in Solomon Islands

Overview

Solomon Islands is a moderately expensive destination for international travelers, particularly due to the high cost of imported goods, limited tourist infrastructure, and reliance on expensive domestic flights or boat travel between islands. Accommodation and food costs in Honiara are relatively manageable, but inter-island transport and dive/activity packages can significantly inflate daily budgets. The country lacks a well-developed backpacker network, making truly budget travel challenging.

Eating at local markets and warungs in Honiara rather than hotel restaurants can dramatically cut food costs, and traveling between islands by public ferry or cargo boat instead of domestic flights can save substantial money on multi-island itineraries.
