Overview

Sudan is generally an affordable destination for international travelers, with low costs for local food and public transport, though ongoing economic instability and currency volatility can complicate budgeting. Accommodation in Khartoum tends to be the biggest expense, and mid-range and luxury options are limited outside the capital. Note that Sudan is a Muslim country where alcohol is prohibited, which eliminates that cost category entirely but also limits nightlife spending.

Exchange money carefully as the official and parallel exchange rates have historically differed significantly — use authorized exchange bureaus to get fair rates, and carry sufficient USD or euros as ATM access for foreign cards is extremely limited.
