Overview
Tuvalu is one of the most expensive destinations in the Pacific for international travelers, primarily because nearly all goods must be imported and accommodation options are extremely limited on the main atoll of Funafuti. Flights to Tuvalu are infrequent and costly, typically routed through Fiji, which adds significantly to the overall trip cost. The small tourism infrastructure means there is little price competition, keeping daily costs elevated even for budget-conscious travelers.
Notes
Book flights and accommodation well in advance as options are very scarce — the Vaiaku Lagi Hotel is effectively the main mid-range option on the island. Eating at local canteens and markets rather than hotel restaurants can noticeably reduce your daily food spend.
