Overview
Yemen is one of the least expensive destinations in the world in nominal terms, but the ongoing conflict since 2015 makes independent travel extremely dangerous and logistically complex, which can drive up real costs through security arrangements, limited transport options, and scarce accommodation. Most of the country is under travel advisories warning against all travel, and the tourism infrastructure has largely collapsed. Costs are low on paper, but the practical expenses of operating safely — including potential fixers, security escorts, and emergency contingencies — can significantly increase actual spend.
Notes
Carry sufficient US dollars or Saudi riyals in cash before entering, as banking infrastructure and ATM networks are severely disrupted across most of the country; local currency (Yemeni rial) values vary significantly between Houthi-controlled and government-controlled areas.
