Visa requirements
Part of the Schengen Area. EU/EEA citizens enter freely. USA, Canada, Australia, UK enter visa-free for up to 90 days.
Getting around
Denmark's efficient DSB trains link Copenhagen with Aarhus, Odense and onward to Sweden and Germany, supplemented by buses and short domestic flights to Jutland. Copenhagen has an automated metro, S-train and bus network on the Rejsekort/contactless system, but cycling is the dominant and beloved way to get around cities.
Safety
One of the world's safest countries. Extremely low violent crime. Cycling is a primary mode of transport — watch the dedicated bike lanes as a pedestrian. Tap water is excellent.
Tipping customs
Service is included in prices and tipping is not expected. Rounding up or leaving a small amount for exceptional restaurant service is welcome but never required, and taxis and hotels likewise carry no tipping obligation.
Travel tips
Rent a bike — Copenhagen has over 400km of dedicated cycle lanes and it's the best way to explore. Noma alumni have seeded Copenhagen's restaurant scene with brilliant new restaurants at all price points. Day trips to Helsingør (Hamlet's castle) and Louisiana Museum of Modern Art are unmissable.
