Getting around
Thailand has overnight trains and extensive buses linking Bangkok to Chiang Mai and the south, plus cheap domestic flights (AirAsia, Nok Air) to the islands and beaches. Bangkok's BTS Skytrain and MRT metro beat the traffic, while metered taxis, tuk-tuks, motorbike taxis and the Grab and Bolt apps cover the rest.
Safety
Thailand is generally safe for tourists. Be aware of common tourist scams.
Tipping customs
Tipping is appreciated but not obligatory. Leave the loose change or about 10% in restaurants (upscale places may add a service charge), round up metered-taxi fares, and give small amounts to hotel porters and housekeeping.
