Overview

Queen Alia is a beautifully designed modern airport (by Norman Foster) with traditional Islamic architectural motifs — the stone cladding and geometric patterns reference Jordanian heritage. Handling 10+ million passengers and serving as Royal Jordanian's hub, it's one of the Middle East's most attractive airports.

Transport to city center

JETT Bus to downtown Amman (30–40 min, JOD 3.3). Uber: JOD 8–12, 35–50 min. Taxis: JOD 12–18 from metered rank. The Uber estimate is usually the best value.

Wi-Fi

Free WiFi is available throughout Queen Alia Airport — select the airport network and register with your email or phone number.

Lounges

Royal Jordanian Crown Class Lounge (Priority Pass eligible), Crown Club Lounge. Both are well-equipped with Middle Eastern hospitality standards — oud incense and fresh mezze.

Security & customs

Most visitors can obtain a visa on arrival, but the Jordan Pass (bought online before travel) waives the visa fee and speeds entry. Expect multiple security checks including a screening at the terminal entrance. Standard 100ml liquid rules apply; keep your passport and any Jordan Pass printout handy for immigration.

Travel tips

Visa on arrival or Jordan Pass (strongly recommended) can be arranged in the arrivals hall. Always get the Jordan Pass if visiting Petra — it pays for itself on Day 1. The currency exchange in arrivals offers reasonable rates for initial JOD cash. Duty-free Dead Sea cosmetics are excellent value.
