Overview
Amman is the Arab world's most relaxed and visitor-friendly capital — a hillside city of white stone buildings, ancient Roman ruins, excellent hummus, and a buzzing restaurant and café scene in the Jabal Amman and Abdali districts. The city is increasingly a destination in itself, not just a base for Petra, with world-class restaurants and galleries.

Getting around
Taxis are cheap and widely available — agree on price or ensure meter use. Uber and Careem work in Amman. The city is spread across hills — walking between districts requires effort. Car hire is recommended for day trips.
