Overview

Gautam Buddha International Airport at Bhairahawa is the gateway to Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha. Opened in 2022, it is one of Nepal's international airports, intended to serve pilgrims and tourists to the sacred site. It handles domestic flights and select international services.

Transport to city center

Lumbini lies a short drive from the airport, reached by taxi or arranged transfer in around 30 minutes. Many pilgrims travel with tour groups.
