Overview
Kandahar International Airport is the main gateway to southern Afghanistan and the country's second-largest airport. It handles a mix of domestic and limited international flights and has long served both civilian and military roles. The single-runway facility connects Kandahar with Kabul and select regional destinations.
Transport to city center
The airport lies well south of the city, and travel into the centre is almost always by private car or pre-arranged taxi. There is no scheduled public transport link.
Wi-Fi
Public WiFi is unreliable or unavailable, so arrange a local SIM for connectivity.
Lounges
There are no commercial pay-per-use lounges; only simple seating is available in the terminal.
Security & customs
Security checks are thorough and may involve multiple screenings, so allow plenty of time. Keep your passport and travel documents accessible throughout.
Travel tips
Flight schedules can change at short notice, so reconfirm before travelling and arrive early. Carry cash, as card facilities are extremely limited.
