Overview

Pohnpei International Airport sits on Deketik Island just outside Kolonia and serves as the main air gateway for Pohnpei State and the nearby national capital area. It is a key stop on United Airlines' trans-Pacific 'Island Hopper' route linking Guam, the Marshall Islands, and Honolulu, making it one of Micronesia's busier airports.

Transport to city center

Kolonia town is just a few kilometres away via a causeway, reached most easily by taxi or hotel shuttle. Rides into town take only about ten minutes.

Wi-Fi

Airport WiFi is limited and unreliable, so download essentials before you arrive.

Lounges

There are no premium airline lounges; the terminal offers only simple seating and a small snack option.

Security & customs

Immigration and customs are simple but manual, and processing can slow during the brief Island Hopper turnarounds. Keep your passport, visa waiver details, and onward ticket handy.

Travel tips

Island Hopper flights run only a few times per week, so book well ahead and reconfirm timings. Carry US dollars, the local currency, as card acceptance is limited.
