Overview

Marrakech is a sensory explosion — snake charmers in Djemaa el-Fna, labyrinthine souks, opulent riads, rose-scented gardens, and the Atlas Mountains on the horizon.

Getting around

Walking in the medina is the only option — streets are too narrow for cars. Petit taxis for cross-city.

Local etiquette

Dress modestly, especially women, covering shoulders and knees; non-Muslims cannot enter most mosques. Use your right hand for eating and greetings, accept offered mint tea graciously, and always bargain in the souks — it's expected and part of the culture. Ask before photographing people (some will request payment), and be discreet during Ramadan.

Safety

Marrakech is relatively safe. Expect aggressive vendors and unofficial 'guides' in the medina. Women may face harassment.
