Ethiopia is one of Africa's most affordable destinations for travelers, with very low costs for local food, public transport, and budget accommodation. However, entrance fees to major sites like Lalibela and the Simien Mountains, as well as domestic flights between key destinations, can significantly increase daily spending. Overall, the cost of travel is driven more by sightseeing and internal transport than by food or lodging.
Notes
Use minibuses and shared taxis for intercity travel instead of private transfers, and eat at local injera restaurants to keep costs very low. Booking domestic flights well in advance with Ethiopian Airlines can also save considerably on longer internal routes.
