Overview

Fiji is a moderately expensive destination by Pacific standards, with costs driven primarily by accommodation, inter-island boat or seaplane transfers, and resort dining. Budget travelers can keep costs reasonable by staying on the Coral Coast or in Nadi guesthouses and eating at local markets, while the famous outer island resorts can push daily spending into the hundreds very quickly. Most imported goods carry a significant markup, making food and alcohol noticeably pricier than in Southeast Asia.

Notes

Eating at local markets and roadside 'roti shops' instead of resort restaurants can cut your food budget dramatically, and using the Fiji bus network or shared minivans rather than taxis is far cheaper for getting around Viti Levu.
