Overview
An archipelago of more than 330 islands, Fiji is famed for turquoise lagoons, soft coral diving, and the legendary warmth of its people who greet you with 'Bula!' The main islands of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu offer rainforest hikes and villages, while the Mamanuca and Yasawa chains deliver postcard beaches and resorts.
Visa requirements
Citizens of most countries receive a free visitor permit on arrival valid for up to four months. A passport valid for at least six months and proof of onward travel are required.
Safety information
Fiji is generally safe and welcoming, with petty theft the main concern in urban Suva and Nadi. Respect ocean conditions and only swim where locally advised due to strong currents around some islands.
Travel tips
Cards are accepted at resorts but carry Fijian dollars for villages, markets, and small islands. When visiting a village, bring a sevusevu (kava) gift and dress modestly. Buy a Vodafone or Digicel SIM at the airport for reliable data.
