Overview
Kenya offers a wide range of travel costs depending on your style, but safari experiences are the primary budget driver and can significantly inflate daily spending. Nairobi and coastal areas like Mombasa have modern amenities at moderate prices, while national parks and private conservancies command premium fees for accommodation and park entry. Budget travelers sticking to cities can get by cheaply, but most visitors come for wildlife, which pushes costs considerably higher.
Notes
Use matatus (shared minibuses) for intercity travel and eat at local nyama choma joints or markets to cut costs dramatically. Book safari accommodation well in advance and consider visiting during the shoulder season (November or April) for lower lodge rates.
