Overview
Lesotho is a relatively affordable destination for international travelers, with costs broadly comparable to neighboring South Africa. Budget travelers can get by cheaply using local minibus taxis and guesthouses, though the mountainous terrain and limited tourism infrastructure can push costs up for activities like pony trekking and guided hikes. Accommodation and food represent the biggest expenses, while local transport remains very cheap.
Notes
Use shared minibus taxis (called 'four-plus-ones') for intercity travel as they are extremely cheap, and self-catering at local markets can significantly reduce food costs throughout your trip.
