Mauritania is a relatively affordable destination by global standards, though infrastructure limitations and its remote location mean costs can add up unexpectedly, particularly for transportation across the vast desert terrain. Alcohol is largely unavailable due to Islamic law, which eliminates one common travel expense, but imported goods and tourist-oriented services carry a premium.
