Travel Costs in Niger

Overview

Niger is one of the world's least expensive countries for travelers in terms of food and local transport, with street food and local eateries being very affordable. However, costs can rise significantly due to limited tourism infrastructure, the need for guides or 4x4 vehicle rentals in desert regions, and relatively expensive international-standard accommodation in Niamey. Security considerations and the requirement for permits in certain areas can also add to overall travel expenses.

Eat at local market stalls and small family-run restaurants where a filling meal of rice or millet-based dishes costs under $3, and use shared bush taxis between towns instead of private vehicle hire to dramatically cut transportation costs.
