Overview
Cyprus is a sun-soaked Mediterranean island where Greek and Turkish heritage meet amid ancient ruins, Byzantine churches, and Crusader castles. Golden beaches near Paphos and Ayia Napa, the wine-making Troodos Mountains, and the legend of Aphrodite's birthplace all draw visitors. A complex modern division adds layers to its rich history.
Visa requirements
EU citizens travel freely, and many others can enter visa-free or with a Schengen/e-visa for short stays in the Republic of Cyprus.
Safety information
Cyprus is very safe with low crime; the main caution is around the divided capital and crossing the UN buffer zone between the south and north. Use official checkpoints.
Travel tips
Cards are widely accepted and English is broadly spoken. Renting a car is the easiest way to explore. Note that driving is on the left.
