Overview

A vast nation of 29 low-lying coral atolls scattered across the central Pacific, the Marshall Islands offer pristine lagoons, superb diving, and poignant WWII and nuclear-era history at Bikini and Kwajalein. Majuro's narrow ribbon of islets gives a vivid sense of life balanced between ocean and sky.

Visa requirements

Most visitors, including US citizens, can enter visa-free for stays of up to 30 days or more. A passport valid for six months and proof of onward travel are required.

Safety information

Crime is generally low, with occasional petty theft and alcohol-related incidents in Majuro. Medical facilities are very limited, so carry comprehensive insurance, and respect restricted areas around former nuclear test atolls.

Travel tips

US dollars are used, but bring cash as cards and ATMs are scarce outside Majuro. Air Marshall Islands serves outer atolls infrequently, so plan flexibly. Buy a local SIM for limited data around the main islands.
