Marshall Islands Traveler Essentials
- Capital
- Majuro
- Currency
- United States Dollar (USD $)
- Best time to visit
- The drier months from December to April bring the calmest seas and best diving. The wetter season runs May to November.
Visa requirements
Most visitors, including US citizens, can enter visa-free for stays of up to 30 days or more. A passport valid for six months and proof of onward travel are required.
Getting around
Domestic flights and supply boats link the outer atolls, while taxis (shared, fixed-fare) and rental cars serve Majuro.
Safety
Crime is generally low, with occasional petty theft and alcohol-related incidents in Majuro. Medical facilities are very limited, so carry comprehensive insurance, and respect restricted areas around former nuclear test atolls.
Tipping customs
Tipping is not customary and not expected. A friendly thank-you is appreciated.
Travel tips
US dollars are used, but bring cash as cards and ATMs are scarce outside Majuro. Air Marshall Islands serves outer atolls infrequently, so plan flexibly. Buy a local SIM for limited data around the main islands.
