Overview

Famed for the surreal Rock Islands and jellyfish-filled marine lakes, Palau is a global icon of conservation and underwater splendor. Its UNESCO-listed lagoon, shark-filled drop-offs at Blue Corner, and WWII relics make it one of the planet's most spectacular diving and snorkeling destinations.

Visa requirements

Most nationalities receive visa-free entry for up to 30 days, and all visitors sign the Palau Pledge stamped in their passport. A passport valid for six months and proof of onward travel are required.

Safety information

Palau is one of the Pacific's safest destinations with very low crime. The main risks are ocean-related, so follow dive operator guidance on currents, and respect marine sanctuary rules.

Travel tips

US dollars are used and cards are accepted at hotels and dive shops, but carry some cash. A green fee and Rock Islands permit are required for marine activities. Sunscreen must be reef-safe, as toxic varieties are banned.
