Overview
This Indian Ocean archipelago of 115 granitic and coral islands is famed for sculpted boulders, powder-white beaches like Anse Source d'Argent, and the giant tortoises and rare coco de mer palms of Praslin's Vallée de Mai. Pristine and luxurious, it offers superb diving, snorkeling and Creole culture. It is the quintessential tropical paradise.
Visa requirements
No visa is required for tourists; arrivals receive a visitor's permit on entry with proof of onward travel, accommodation and funds (a travel authorization is registered online beforehand).
Safety information
Seychelles is very safe with low crime, though petty theft from beaches and accommodation can occur, so secure valuables. Respect strong ocean currents and follow local advice on swimming spots.
Travel tips
Cards are widely accepted, but carry some rupees for small purchases and markets. English and French make travel easy, and inter-island ferries and flights should be booked ahead. Buy an Airtel or Cable & Wireless SIM, and note the islands are pricey, so budget accordingly.
