Getting around
Singapore is compact, so getting around centres on its clean, efficient MRT metro and bus network, paid easily with contactless cards or EZ-Link. Taxis are metered and reliable, and ride-hailing apps Grab and Gojek are hugely popular; the whole city is easily covered without a car.

Singapore is one of the world's safest cities. Laws are strict — fines are enforced.
Tipping customs
Tipping is not customary and is even discouraged in some settings; restaurants typically add a 10% service charge plus GST (shown as '++'). Taxis and ride-hailing don't expect tips, and hotel tipping is minimal, though a small amount for porters is fine.
Travel tips
Hawker centres are the best food value. The MRT is excellent. Don't miss Gardens by the Bay.
